The meeting is part of a series being undertaken to discuss the impact of the credit crunch, focused on the economic difficulties faced by many households and businesses here.
Mr Robinson said: “The voluntary and community sector has a deep understanding of the hardships many households are facing in Northern Ireland. It is vital that we use their experience to assess how we can go about easing the burden faced by the vulnerable, the elderly and those living in disadvantaged communities.”
Mr McGuinness said: “We are determined where possible to alleviate the impact of the current economic downturn, however the complexities of the economic crisis do not allow simple or quick fixes. Now that these meetings are near a conclusion, we will be considering what actions we can take to alleviate the current hardships faced across our society.”
The First Minister and deputy First Minister have already met with senior local representatives of the main financial institutions, Institute of Directors, the construction sector, the trade unions, the energy sector and regulator and the business sector.
