Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness helped celebrate the 50th anniversary of St Patrick’s Primary School in Creggan, Carrickmore, Co Tyrone when he cut the ribbon to officially open the school’s new library.
peaking about the 50th Anniversary, he said: “It’s an honour to be here in St Patrick’s on their 50th anniversary. Primary schools are often at the centre of the community in rural areas where the children of whole communities passing through the doors every day. This school would have seen a generation of children sending their children to the same school they attended.”
Officially opening the new library, he said: “I wish to congratulate the school on reaching its 50th anniversary and completing this new library which I am sure the children will greatly benefit from. St Patrick’s has been an important part of the local community for half a century and I am sure it will continue for many more years.”
