They were also discussing taking a common approach to shared issues under the UN convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC).
Last year the UNCRC examined the approach of the different administrations to the convention and published a number of cross-cutting observations.
Junior Minister Kelly described the meeting, held at the National Assembly for Wales, as a welcome opportunity to share progress: “Today’s meeting is a welcome development to share views and work on issues which are common to us all although we will have issues very specific to the North which will need to consider ourselves. Ultimately our goal is to progress children’s rights and in doing so make a real difference in their lives so they reach their full potential.”
Junior Minister Donaldson: “I am pleased to see the strengthening of the working relationship between the UK administrations in driving forward this agenda. We have already developed and distributed to all school-age children age appropriate versions of the convention to raise awareness of their rights.”
