The minister was launching the Peace Day Campaign, organised by Springboard Opportunities Limited, to raise awareness of the United Nations International Day of Peace Campaign which is celebrated annually on 21st September.
Speaking at the launch in the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings, Minister Kelly said: “The importance of moving towards a society where there is respect, understanding and acceptance of each other's traditions cannot be stressed enough - where the differences in our society cease to be barriers between us. I believe this is not just true for us here but world-wide. Traditions need not and should not be competitive.
“Everyone of us has the responsibility and a role to play in creating a society that is at ease with individual diversity and with the diversity of communities,” he added.
In concluding his remarks Junior Minister Kelly said he hoped that everyone would “have an opportunity to mark in our own way the UN International Day of Peace on 21st September.”
