OFMDFM statement on CSI and Parading issues
Thursday, 25 February 2010A spokesperson for OFMDFM said: "The outstanding issues around Cohesion, Sharing and Integration have been resolved and the final draft of the document is being prepared. The Department is committed to a full public consultation.
"In order to ensure the document is both considered and comprehensive government departments and the OFMDFM Committee are required to provide their input before it is issued for public consultation.
"The process on parading was laid out in the Hillsborough Castle Agreement, and we are fully committed to it.
"The working group on parading issues have concluded their report and presented it to the First Minister and deputy First Minister. Ministers will consider the proposals on an improved framework for dealing with parading issues. This will inform the public consultation in late March/ early April.
"That process includes full consultation on the draft Parades Bill. The Bill that goes to the Assembly will require Executive agreement, and will be subject to further consultation through the Assembly Committee in September.
"Every MLA will have the opportunity to debate and vote on this bill. We recognise that it is essential that any work on parading maximises public support, and we are committed to extensive consultation on and scrutiny of any Bill.
"OFMDFM is committed to transparency in all its dealings and understands the need to keep the public informed of the work being undertaken on their behalf. "
