Junior Minister Newton addresses the 10th UK Youth Parliament Annual Sitting
Monday, 26 July 2010Junior Minister Robin Newton MLA today addressed over 300 young delegates at the 10th Annual Sitting of the UK Youth Parliament held at the Jordanstown campus of the University of Ulster.
The Youth Parliament now has over 600 elected members and deputy members working across the country to represent the views of young people, locally, regionally and nationally.
Minister Newton said: “The Executive is committed to achieving the best outcomes for children and young people and developing a culture where their views are routinely sought on matters that impact on their lives.
“I am reassured that, through such innovations as the Youth Parliament, young people from all over the country are being given the opportunity to have their opinions heard and receive recognition for the valuable contribution they are making.
“I was struck by the enthusiasm and passion of the young people today. They are truly an inspiration to us all.
“The views these young people have expressed are taken very seriously and can make a real difference for the better to their future. I commend the Youth Parliament for their hard work and commitment over the last 10 years as they move to the future.”
