04 April 2008 - First Minister visits Fivemiletown creamery

First Minister Ian Paisley MP, MLA has been given a tour of the production facilities at the Fivemiletown Creamery in Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland’s leading producer of speciality cheeses.

Speaking during the visit Dr Paisley commended the management and staff at the creamery on the range of award winning cheeses: “Fivemiletown cheeses are unique here in Northern Ireland. As well as great cheddar cheeses, the Creamery produces a range of speciality cheeses which are sold in major retail shops and delicatessens as well as featuring on restaurant cheeseboards. I was pleased to hear that Fivemiletown now export their cheeses to other European countries and America.”

Paying tribute to the farmers who supply milk to the Creamery, he said: “Quality cheese can only be made from quality milk and we are fortunate that in Northern Ireland our dairy farmers supply some of the best milk available.

“Fivemiletown Creamery is owned by the same farmers who supply it with milk and I think this is a very good example of farmers controlling the business which further processes and adds value to the excellent milk supplied from their farms.”

Dr Paisley had the opportunity to taste the range of cheeses made at Fivemiletown before taking a tour of the production facilities.
