McGuinness praises Dungannon 'Festival of Culture' event

Friday, 30 April 2010

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, MLA has commended students and teachers for their originality and creativity in organising an event which enables students to experience examples of other cultures

Speaking at the Festival of Culture at St Patrick's College, Dungannon, today he said: “By learning about the beliefs and lives of people who are different to ourselves, through the media of fashion, music, dance and poetry, we can truly build a society free from all forms of racism and discrimination.”

The event was arranged by Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council and St Patrick’s College as part of this years’ Community Relations week.

The deputy First Minister went on to say : “There is a real generosity and decency that exists within most of our communities. It is this generosity and welcome which we must build on as we move forward to replace division and discrimination with respect for diversity and promotion of equality, and where we can all be enriched by the many and varied cultures of our people.”
