22 February 2008 - Paisley welcomes international hotel chain to Northern Ireland

First Minister Dr Ian Paisley MP, MLA has welcomed an announcement by a local business consortium to bring a £25million Marriott hotel to the Gasworks site in Belfast.

The announcement was made by Culzean Holdings Ltd following the signing of brand and management agreements with global hotel company Marriott International. The agreement will see the construction of a new £25million, 4 Star, 169-room hotel in Belfast’s Gasworks, Marriott’s first in Northern Ireland.

Speaking following the signing of the agreement, Dr Paisley said: “I am pleased to welcome Marriott Hotels to Northern Ireland. The opening of a new 4 star hotel is an important boost not only for our local economy, creating 60 full time jobs, but also for our growing tourist industry. The Marriott Hotel chain can only help to increase our record visitor numbers and will be a fitting addition to the vibrant Gasworks site.”

Construction work on the hotel is scheduled to commence in October 2008 with opening planned for March 2010.
