26 February 2008 - Jeffrey Donaldson welcomes challenge of new Junior Minister post

The Rt Hon Jeffrey Donaldson MP has welcomed his appointment as Junior Minister in the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister.

Mr Donaldson was sworn into office this afternoon and replaces Ian Paisley Jnr who resigned from the post this morning.

Welcoming his new appointment Mr Donaldson said: “The Programme for Government and the Budget provide a strong framework of action to build the sort of future we all want to see for Northern Ireland.

“Children and young people together with older people are key priorities, alongside other areas, and I look forward to providing positive leadership in tackling these issues as part of my specific responsibilities within OFMDFM. I am particularly conscious of our responsibilities to the victims sector and look forward to working with them."

Mr Donaldson added: “The new Executive faces many challenges and I look forward to working with executive colleagues in delivering a peaceful, prosperous and fair society for all the people of Northern Ireland."
