McGuinness cites unity of vision as key to regeneration

Saturday, 7 February 2009

Deputy First Minster Martin McGuinness told a conference in Buncrana today that unity of vision was the key to regeneration in the North West.

He was speaking at the Future Search Conference organised by the Mayor of Derry’s Civic Regeneration Forum and supported by Ilex.

Mr McGuinness said: “The transformation of the city, that some of us call Derry some of us call Londonderry but all of us call home, can only be achieved by all stakeholders from all backgrounds working together.”

He praised the work of the Forum saying: “The Future Search methodology helps people collaborate despite differences of culture, class, gender, age, race, ethnicity, language, and education. It is the unity of vision that this approach provides that will play a vital part in helping us achieve our objective of making a better life for all our people.”

He also commended the work of Ilex and their Chairman Sir Roy McNulty in the production of the Mark II Regeneration Plan for the city.
