Robinson grilled by primary school pupils

Wednesday, 18 February 2009

First Minister Peter D. Robinson MP, MLA was given a tough grilling by the pupils of the award winning Newtownards Model Primary School today.

The Minister stopped for a brief question and answer session with the pupils as he toured the primary school, the first here to achieve the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency Information and Communication Technology Award.

The pupils asked the First Minister a range of questions including what school he attended as a little boy.

Mr Robinson said: "I attended Newtownbreda Primary School and I look back on my time there very fondly, but it was very different school back then compared to the modern primary school that Newtownards Model is today. It is clear that the recent refurbishment of Newtownards Model Primary School and the excellent teaching staff have made this school a place that the children obviously love to be.

"Newtownards Model Primary is the modern benchmark that we must judge our primary schools by. The school has won a host of awards covering everything from the building to the quality of teaching and their use of information technology. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Mark is a national accreditation scheme which recognises schools for their achievements in reaching a standard of maturity in their use of technology.

"I congratulate Newtownards Model Primary School on their success in achieving this prestigious ICT Mark."
