Wednesday, 13 January 2010Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MP, MLA has expressed his deep sadness at the passing of one of our most successful businessman Sir Alan McClay.
Sir Alan, the founder of the internationally renowned Almac Group, passed away in Philadelphia yesterday.
Mr McGuinness said: “It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Sir Alan McClay, I know that I will echo the thoughts of many when I say that we have not only lost a wonderful businessman but also a true gentlemen. Sir Alan McClay was perhaps the most successful businessman we have ever produced. He placed the north of Ireland on the international stage. The Almac group is a shining example of what can be achieved here.
"Sir Alan’s commitment to business was only surpassed by his commitment to charity and to improving the lives of others. The McClay Foundation and the McClay Trust are just two examples of Sir Alan’s dedication to innovation in both the pharmaceutical and healthcare fields. Sir Alan’s philanthropy changed the lives of so many people and his legacy will live on for many years to come. I would like to pass my deepest condolences to his friends and family."
