A consultation on proposals to amend the Sex Discrimination (NI) Order 1976 was launched today by the office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister.
The amendments are needed to comply with the EU Gender Directive (2004/113/EC) which implements the principle of equal treatment between women and men in the access to, and the supply of, goods and services.
The proposed amendments to the Sex Discrimination Order will further extend the existing protection against discrimination in the provision of goods, facilities or services and premises.
The consultation period closes on 21 September 2007.
