10 March 2008 - Donaldson meets with "politicians of the future" at Stormont

Jeffrey Donaldson met with politicians of the future this morning when he dropped into a Youth Parliament debate in Parliament Buildings.

The Junior Minister took the opportunity to listen to the young people debate issues such as global warming and nuclear power at the event organised to mark Commonwealth Day.

Jeffrey Donaldson said he was impressed by the level of debate.

“We certainly have some politicians of the future here. It is always interesting to listen to debates and to the different arguments put forward.

“It is also good to see that young people enjoy making their views known and are keen to participate in civic life in Northern Ireland.

“As a champion for children and young people, I want to encourage young people to express themselves and let government know what their thoughts and feelings are.

“We are committed to listening to our young people, ensuring that their voices are heard and that we adopt an integrated approach across government in tackling the many issues which face today’s youth.”
