Speaking following the meeting in Parliament Buildings the Rt Hon Dr Ian Paisley, MP MLA, and Mr Martin McGuinness, MP MLA, said: “The Chinese community is currently the largest ethnic minority living here. The establishment of a consular presence will further enhance the relationship between our two peoples and provide greater levels of support to the local Chinese community. It will also provide an undoubted boost in terms of links with the second largest economy in the world.”
Following their meeting Mr Jiang also attended a reception in Parliament Buildings which was jointly hosted by the two Ministers to celebrate the contribution made by ethnic minorities to cultural, economic and political life here.
Welcoming their guests to the reception the Ministers said: “It is important tonight to celebrate our rich cultural diversity, highlight the importance of ethnic communities and demonstrate our zero tolerance of racism.”
