20 November 2007 - First Minister and deputy First Minister condemn robberies of priests

The First and Deputy First Ministers have condemned the knifepoint robbery on two priests in Cookstown as well as the robbery of another priest in West Belfast at the weekend.

“I totally condemn these cowardly and despicable attacks,” the First Minister said.

“I know that the entire community will share the sense of outrage at these acts,” Dr Paisley added.

Martin McGuinness said: “I contacted Fr Liam McKinney and Fr Gareth Campbell this morning to extend to them the support of myself and the First Minister.

“Both these young men are not only highly regarded within their own congregation but have established close links across the entire community through their work with others churches and groups.

“The criminals who carried out these atrocious attacks have nothing whatsoever to offer our society and it is important that they are apprehended and brought to justice. I would appeal to anyone who can provide any information which could help to make it available to the PSNI.”
