26 November 2007 - Paisley jnr encourages all to take steps towards a better future

The importance of tolerance, acceptance and understanding in society was emphasised today by Ian Paisley Jnr.

The Junior Minister was speaking in Parliament Buildings at the launch of One Small Step’s new project which is seeking public contributions to include in a book of examples of the kind of steps that people can take to help build a shared future.

One Small Step is a group of diverse organisations (and individuals) that represent civic society. Its aim is to promote a more shared and integrated society by emphasising how each person can take small steps to help towards securing a peaceful and meaningful future.

Speaking at the event Ian Paisley Jnr said: “As Ministers and MLAs we accept that we must provide positive leadership. However, we all have to play our part. I have been struck by the campaign’s emphasis on progress depending greatly on the responsibilities of each person to make a difference – that the future does not rest solely in the hands of politicians.

“Stormont, the Assembly and the Executive, is part of a project which goes beyond this building and its political/government structure. I believe that’s precisely what One Small Step is about.”

“I congratulate the work of the One Small Step campaign in getting this very important message that everyone has a responsibility to work towards a better future across to the people of Northern Ireland.

“It is only when we each play our part in promoting this important message that Northern Ireland can enjoy a better future.”
