Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has welcomed the decision by National Irish Bank and its sister company Northern Bank to abolish fees for electronic cross-border transfers.
“At the recent institutional meeting of the North South Ministerial Council in Dundalk it was agreed to set up a working group to examine cross-border banking issues, including transaction charges, and report back to a future NSMC meeting. This announcement is therefore welcomed,“ Mr McGuinness said.
“It will prove beneficial to many people who work and live on different sides of the border and I hope it may provide a lead which other banks will follow.”
