05 October 2007 - First Minister congratulates Prince's Trust Volunteers

First Minister Rt Hon Ian Paisley MP MLA today hosted an awards ceremony in Parliament Buildings celebrating the work of the Prince’s Trust in Northern Ireland.

The ceremony acknowledged the support provided by both public and private sector employers who have allowed their staff to participate in the Trust’s Team programme, a twelve week programme of personal development.

Speaking at the ceremony the First Minister said: “I have long been a supporter of the Trust’s work in Northern Ireland. Their training has helped many young people cross the bridge into employment or self-employment. The Team programme in particular has helped many of our young people to look beyond their own personal barriers and to see a future in society.

“The programme could not function without the support of employers who allow their staff to participate in the programme as volunteers, seconded team leaders and development coaches. The contribution they make is invaluable.”

The ceremony was attended by a wide range of employers including Moy Park, Dale Farm, PSNI and representatives of all eleven government departments, all of whom have played an active role in the Team programme.

In concluding the First Minister said: “I congratulate all of those who have been chosen to receive an award. You have selflessly given of your time and resources to make a difference to the lives of some of our most marginalised young people helping them to find their place in society. I warmly congratulate you all and wish you continued success.”
