Society needs secure and happy children - Junior Ministers
Monday, 8 October 2007Secure, happy and confident children are the key to the future of our society.
That was the message from Junior Ministers Ian Paisley Jnr MLA and Gerry Kelly MLA as they attended the launch of the NCH growing strong campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the effect a child’s emotional wellbeing can have on their life chances.
Ian Paisley Jnr said: “Poor emotional wellbeing is an important factor behind social problems in our society. Children do not grow strong on their own. They need opportunities to talk with the people who influence their lives. They need support from families, friends, schools and public services.”
Gerry Kelly added: “It is important that every child and young person has the self esteem, resilience and social skills they need to make the most of their future. Disruption in children’s lives can make them vulnerable. However with the right support, they can get through difficult times.”
Following the launch both Junior Ministers agreed to support the campaign to help prevent children from making harmful choices that can affect their future.
The campaign will also call on the Northern Ireland public to take action to help children grow strong by joining their campaign. Postcards will be distributed to the public in Belfast to encourage their support.
