24 September 2007 - Paisley raises autism issues

The First Minister recently met with representatives of Parents and Professionals Autism Northern Ireland (PAPA).

Commenting on the meeting the First Minister said: “My discussions with PAPA were extremely productive. The provision of appropriate services for children and young people living with autism is something we should all seek to achieve.

“I have brought the issues raised in the course of the meeting to the attention of the Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety and the Minister for Education. I will also be speaking directly to the Minister for Education. I feel that local joined up government can be a better champion for young people with autism.”

PAPA is part of an autism delegation which will visit Washington in late September. The delegation will also include representatives of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and the DHSSPS Assembly Committee. Other devolved administrations will also make the visit to Washington. The First Minister offered his best wishes to the Northern Ireland delegation.
