The Executive Office today launched a competition to appoint a Commissioner for Children and Young People for Northern Ireland.

This is a vital role in safeguarding and promoting the rights and best interests of our children and young people.

There are no specific qualifications required to apply for this position.

However, we are looking for an individual who can use their skills and experience to fulfil this role to maximum impact.

Notes to editors: 

  1. Applications are particularly welcome from those in age group 18–39, women, and those who have a disability, as these groups have traditionally been under-represented.
  2. This post is a full-time appointment for a period of four years, with the possibility of one renewal for a further period of four years, subject to satisfactory performance.
  3. The remuneration for the Commissioner will be on the NICS SCS Grade 5 scale of £74,912 - £84,122 per annum, within which pay progression will be dependent on satisfactory performance. The post is pensionable. Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred will be paid at Northern Ireland Civil Service rates.
