The Department for Communities has launched a competition to appoint a Commissioner with Accountancy Qualifications and Related Experience to the Board of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (the Commission).
As the independent regulator of charities in Northern Ireland, the Commission plays a key role in their development. The charity sector supports and provides vital services to the people of Northern Ireland, with charities ranging from small local groups, to those that operate nationally and internationally.
The Commissioner will provide a specific skill-set to the Board whilst also making a significant contribution to the charitable sector, particularly in helping to drive forward change arising out of the Independent Review of Charity Regulation. Those with the requisite qualifications and experience are encouraged to apply.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 19 June 2023.

- This is a competition to appoint a Commissioner to the Board of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland for a term of up to five years from 1 September 2023.
- The Commissioner receives remuneration of £2447 per annum for a commitment of 1.5 days per month. However, an interim arrangement is in place, until a review of remuneration is completed, which allows up to a further 0.5 days per month, potentially increasing total remuneration to £3263 per annum. It is expected that this interim arrangement will be in place until March 2024. Travel and subsistence allowances are also payable.
- This appointment will be made in accordance with the Code of Practice for Ministerial Public Appointments in NI in accordance with the requirement of the Commissioner for Public Appointments NI. All appointments are based on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of all public appointees to be published.
