The new build project comprises 21 classrooms, four specialist SEN rooms with supporting accommodation, a dedicated Nurture room, school meal facilities, extensive outdoor play areas and a standalone double Nursery unit.

Speaking at the opening ceremony Paul Givan said:

“This is a great day for everyone at Elmgrove Primary School and the wider community. The new school building blends modern facilities with respect for the school's local heritage.

“It represents a significant investment of over £16.5 million. That is an investment, which not only gives us this superb building, but one that helps to give current and future pupils the best possible start.”

    The Minister continued:

“A new building brings tangible change to daily school life and the wider community. Teachers, staff and pupils deserve to teach and learn in schools that create an environment for children to learn and flourish. I am certain the new facilities here will serve the pupils and the local community well, now and for generations to come.

“I would like to acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved in delivering this project, including school staff, Governors, consultants, contractors and officials.

“I wish everyone associated with the school every success as they embark on a new chapter at Elmgrove.”

Jayne Jeffers, Principal of Elmgrove Primary School, added:

“This event marks a significant milestone in the life of our school and community. The new facilities provide a modern, inclusive, and inspiring environment for learning.

“The new Elmgrove Primary School and Nursery Unit building is not only a state-of-the-art educational facility for our children but represents a meaningful investment in the local area. In addition to supporting children’s learning, the new facilities will, in time, serve as a resource for the wider community, offering flexible spaces that can be used for events, activities, and partnerships.

“The whole school community is immensely proud to celebrate the official opening of this wonderful building and we look forward to the opportunities it will provide for generations to come.”

Construction of the school commenced in March 2021 and was completed in January 2025.
