O’Dowd - Park and Ride an attractive travel option as Cairnshill site to be staffed
Date published:
Infrastructure Minister has taken a further step towards encouraging more use of park and rides with the reopening of the building at Cairnshill Park and Ride site.

The waiting area at Cairnshill Park and Ride will reopen on Monday 20 January 2025 and staff will be on site Monday to Friday between the hours of 6.30am and 7.00pm on a trial basis.
Making the announcement Minster O’Dowd said:
“This is welcome news for anyone travelling onto the city centre from the south of the city.
“The Cairnshill site is conveniently located along the Saintfield Road and as well as being able to park safely commuters will be able to avail of the facilities in the building before boarding the bus for a stress-free journey into the city centre.
“My Department is continuing to work with stakeholders to help combat congestion in the city while works are ongoing around Grand Central Station and this further intervention measure should encourage more uptake of the park and ride facilities.
“The Cairnshill park and Ride site provides 724 free car parking spaces. If utilised to its capacity that is 724 fewer cars travelling from the south of the city into and out of the city centre during busy peak hours.
“We all must continue to play our part and consider how we travel so why not give park and ride a try and sit back and relax on the bus for a more convenient journey into the city centre.”
Cairnshill Park and Ride offers frequent services to Belfast City Centre throughout the day. It is also a short walk to connect with Metro 7 and Ulsterbus services on the Saintfield Road.
Self-service ticket vending machines (TVMs) are available at Cairnshill Park and Ride, which make it faster, easier and more convenient for passengers to buy their bus tickets before they travel.
