Work has commenced on the first phase of a new £470,000 flood alleviation scheme near Clady Village, Tyrone.
The scheme is designed to reduce the risk of flooding to dwellings in the Stephenstown area of Clady that flooded during the December 2015 floods.
This first phase of the scheme includes approximately 100 metres of new pipeline with associated outlet structure and flood protection to the rear of two properties on the Urney Road. These works are expected to be complete by the end of summer 2018.
The second phase of the works includes 520 metres of earthen flood defence to the rear of additional properties on Urney Road. These works are programmed to commence late summer 2018 with completion by March 2019.
The works have been carefully programmed to minimise any inconvenience to the public. However, motorists should be aware of emerging construction traffic.
In addition, structural design is nearing completion on a Drainage Infrastructure Scheme to replace the flood defence wall damaged on the Donneygowan Burn in Clady Village during the December 2015 floods. Work on this scheme is also planned to commence in summer 2018 with expected completion by March 2019.
