In 2009, the DETI Minister, Arlene Foster MLA, commissioned the Independent Review of Economic Policy (IREP) to undertake a thorough assessment of economic development in Northern Ireland. The report was published in September 2009, with 58 wide-ranging recommendations. In a statement to the Assembly (January 2010), the DETI Minister indicated that she was accepting the majority of the recommendations and outlined a programme that was put in place to ensure their implementation. In March 2011, the Minister provided the Assembly with a further update on how the
recommendations were being implemented.
